据悉，英国早在60年代末期，就协助企业制订了物流人才的培训计划，组织了各类物流专业性的会议。到了70年代，正式组建了全英国管理协会。
英国多功能综合物流中心体系的建立，对整个欧洲影响很大，也形成了英国综合性的物流体制的现代化模式。英国开设有物流专业的大学不少，但有些学校把物流专业划分为管理类课程，而有些学校则将其纳为工程类专业。
三大类物流专业
Transport：对将来在港口、海运、空运方面的就业会有所帮助;
Logistics / supply chain：对进入物流公司有一定的好处;
Operations / supply chain：就业面更为广阔，往往不限行业、不限公司性质，但港口、海运、空运方面就很难插足。
根据专业设置的出发点，把该专业分为三类：
1、管理学
如果你倾向于管理学，就要选在这个领域颇有建树的学校读了。这类的学习主要涉及的是管理理念，管理方法和工具，案例分析等。较易入门。(曼大，利物浦，纽卡)
2、工程学
3、统计学
对建模和数学感兴趣的同学，不妨考虑有工程学或者统计学倾向的供应链专业(Lancaster，Cardiff，Cambridge，Cass，在数学和建模方面在学术界声誉不错)
